The Akalbah (Royal) Family

When the shadow of Raughir passed over the men of Akar, the tribe Akalbah was amongst the greatest of their people. They were last to bend their knee to the Emperor, and subsequently, suffered the most bloodshed because of this. These people submitted through warfare, unlike most others of the area, and Raughir punished them accordingly.

Akalbah no longer dominated the men of Akar, as Raughir's favor was much greater with others, and Akalbah was cast into squander before long. The Emperor forbade the tribe to serve as anything other than manual labor for a hundred years, but even the Demon-Lord saw the strength that they possessed.

Raughir could not ignore the advantage they could grant him. They began serving his Imperial Army and Navy; they worked as his civil officers, and contributed in many other ways. Though Raughir's punishments had subsided, the history of such still stung, and their second born sons were not acquitted the sacrifice to the Emperor's altars.

The Great Purge did not impact Akalbah as much as other families, for they were neither destroyed nor promoted. Simply, they continued to serve as middle-ranking officers and politicians. Raughir was cautious when dealing with their brood.

Akalbah began to grow brutal, summoned by Raughir for the most dangerous and most vile tasks. They served well, and they served without reservations. Why they were recruited by Raughir for such things, is unknown, yet it served them well in years to come.

Raughir began to overlook his own subjects as a threat to him. House Akalbah slowly rose in power, several of them promoted to Generals in His army or Captains in His navy.

The Last Rift War banished Raughir, but Saloh Asfarix was not alone in his ambition. The rumor holds that for several years before his rebellion, Saloh had a constant companion, who was his Vice-General. Certainly, he was privy to the rebellion, and supported Saloh's attack against Raughir's loyalist armies.

These rumors do not stop there. Saloh practiced a custom that did not outlive him. The King kept the identities of his Generals secret, afraid that supporters of Linsaki and Raughir would have them assassinated.

When Saloh was killed near Tadkar, it was his Vice-Admiral that took up his ceremonial helm and led his men to victory. That man, calling himself Saloh the Second, later became King. His Akalbah heritage became known soon after, and his once dominating family once again held the premier power in Akar.
