The Akarian Military

"Behold! Our enemy has seen the faces of its conquerors, and they scatter now like grass in the winds! Truly I say to you all today, the glory of victory is ours! Take this city and make it yours, and in doing so bring honor to your fathers and mothers."

-General Ezran Karatri of Tenigul, upon entering Carnac

For millenia, no army was so feared as the Imperial Army of Uruadum. An unholy army, according to its enemies, it never begged quarter, and never gave it. It was no secret that the true might behind the Imperial Army lay in the hands of its dark Master. During its greatest might, the Imperial Army was comprised of Men, Goblins, Ogres, and the evil creations of Raughir the Demon Lord. Its own dead, and the dead of its enemy, would rise to fight alongside it. Only the very best of armies, and those with greatest courage (and magical assistance) could withstand it.

"Now is the time, bretheren, to break the yoke of slavery to the Demons who would be your masters!"

-General Saloh Asfarix of Tenigul, at the Battle For Freedom

On the verge of ultimate and complete victory, less than a hundred years ago today, the Uruadum army was brought to its knees. The very army which had made Raughir's name feared throughout the realms had rebelled. The much feared Dark Born General Valdaran had taken his best troops on a secretive mission from Raughir, and the control of Imperial Army was now given to General Saloh of Tenigul, who secretly had plotted against Raughir for many years.

Many men were inspired by Saloh, and Saloh had many powerful officers under his influence as well. Stunned Durnalian soldiers watched with joy and incredulity as the men of Uruadum turned against themselves. It was a bloody battle, but surprise was on Saloh's side. The Teniguese armies made forced march after forced march to arrive at Tenigul as quickly as possible.

By some stroke of fortune, Saloh's admirals at sea had done the same thing. It all happened so quickly. By the time Saloh returned to Tenigul, Raughir was dead. The Teniguese revered Saloh, and wished to make him king. At first, he seemed to resist. But after a year, he was named King of Akar.

Today the Akarian Army still retains its fierce pride and honor, and they believe themselves to be liberators not only of Tenigul, but of the entire world. Were it not for the actions they had taken, they reason, the "heroes" which Durnalis seems to worship could never have landed, and Raughir would never have been defeated. There is some matter of friendly rivalry between the Army and the Navy, however; each claims their part was more greatly responsible for the overthrow of the Demon Lord. The Army is at all times loyal to the King, though rumors abound that it would rise up against him should he become a tyrant.

"It wer Admiral Jessen whut oughta been King, I tell ya. He be the one who told Raughir to his face that him and the ships was gonna turn right 'round and leave him to die on that island."

With the naval warfare escalating on the Kunyori Sea, Raughir took the forces of the Pearl Sail and gave them to Admiral Dasiren Jessen, to protect him on the Island of Funeng as he awaited the completion of Lothengwa's goal: the opening of the Rift. Jessen, Raughir did not know, was a member of Saloh's secretive society, and had been plotting for years with Saloh to overthrow the Demonic Emperor.

So when it came time to defend Raughir, Jessen turned his ships against those who were loyal to Raughir, and waged a pitched battle. There is no doubt in the minds of the Teniguese that without Jessen's bravery, all would have been lost.

Some viewed Jessen's actions as braver, and others as treachery, but in the end Raughir died and it did not matter which it was. That battle with the loyal Imperialists was costly to the Akarian Navy, but not half so costly as the attacks which it had endured by the Durnalians, and would continue to endure. Durnalis did not care to hear the entreaties for mercy by the Akarians; they did not know the war had ended, and they could not have known the truth of the Last Battle.

After a full year, the Durnalian King declared peace with the city of Tenigul, and the Akarian Navy began the slow process of rebuilding. Years later it would face its nemesis the Pearl Sail in battle; the Akarian Navy has scarecely had the opportunity to rebuild itself. Privateers are as apt to join the dreaded Wuuzushi Pirates as they are to offer their vessels to the Akarian Navy, but nonetheless, the Akarian Navy is comprised largely now of Privateers. It is an unstable force, but its legacy is inscrutable. The Akarian Navy, which often refers to itself as the Fleet of the Free, is as honorable as the King's Guard itself.

OOC Note: The Akarian Army and Navy are truly one force, loyal to the King. They will not support a tyrant. A powerful leader turned the Army and the Navy against Raughir; the King no doubt realizes the same could happen to him.
