Erik slowly and respectfully back up a few steps. He then bows to the auburn Pegasus, "My apologies, Ginger. I meant no offence." He then turns to the other Pegusi and introduces himself to them.

Raven tips his hat to Erma, and then to the Pegasai, "My applogizes. I did not realize that these fine creatures were so intelligent." He looks around at the other Pegasai and taps the brim of his hat. Standing straight he glances at the other men, and at the gnome and his dog, "This should be interesting. I suppose I am ready to attmpt this." He gulps, trying to hide it, but doesn't do a perfect job of it.

Torgunn looks in amazement at the Pegasi and immediately starts to sputter.
"By Clangeddin's beard! You expect me to ride on one of those! Dwarfs are made of steel an Rock! not Air an' feathers! Besides! My stubby legs would ensure that I'd fall to my death and enter the mead halls a tad bit early!"
Clearly Torgunn is looking for a little bit of reassurance.

"Stubby legs don't matter as much as you'd think, Torgunn; I doubt any of our friends would let you fall if you were polite and held on."
Smiling, Chance nods politely to each pegasus in turn. "Pleased to meet all of you. We are glad for your help." The young ranger approaches their mounts, allowing them to smell that he means no harm.

The pegasi whinny and snort as they softly trod upon the ground and approach each of you. The party’s relative ‘uneasiness’ around the animals seems to make the beasts wary of approaching initially, though they soon overcome their hesitation and, before long, are carrying themselves among the group quite confidently.
[ OOC ] ![Show/hide content [x]](themes/cpgnuke/images/plus.gif) For those of you with ANY ranks in Spellcraft – they appear to be trying to detect something.
LOL, the entire party is Neutral Good! Santa Claus would be proud!
“Oh you better be good, for goodness’ sake…”
The majestic beasts then spend the next several moments allowing themselves to get better acquainted with the group’s presence and seem to linger around Torgunn much more so than the others. The dwarf’s outburst seems to amuse Erma’s mount, Ginger, greatly and the auburn beast begins to whinny and chortle aloud, mirthfully. The creature then steps forwards and lowers its head and forelegs upon the ground, as if giving a polite invitation for the dwarf to climb aboard.
Seeing their leader lower itself to the ground, the other animals likewise do the same before their respective riders.
[ OOC ] ![Show/hide content [x]](themes/cpgnuke/images/plus.gif) Your mounts have chosen their riders!
Since there are only four pegasi in which to carry all of you, your party will be allocated as follows:
Ginger will transport Erma & Torgunn, whilst Tol will carry Erik & Raven.
The younger, smaller mounts will then bear the following characters:
Nim will hold Ash & Shadow, and Maddox will bear the combined weight of Chance & Llorne.
The young woman does her best to help everyone aboard their mounts and makes sure that they are securely fastened upon them. She then climbs atop of Ginger and begins to instruct the party on how to properly ride the animals.
[ OOC ] ![Show/hide content [x]](themes/cpgnuke/images/plus.gif) I did my best to split your weights up among your mounts. This being said, each of them will be traveling under medium encumbrance and thusly only be able to cover a total of 72 miles per day. Given your chosen route and distance from the town of Safeton, your journey will take a total of 10 days (barring any encounters and their outcomes) in order to reach your final destination.
Any encounters along the way will be dealt with in the next Chapter and each of you will gain a +4 bonus to any Ride checks that might be needed during the trip, due to special fittings found upon the mounts as well as Erma’s guidance combined with the pegasi’s own personal form of ‘pack’ tactics.
Once the young woman feels confident enough that you have a general understanding of how your mounts will work, she then beckons you to spur the animals into flight!
[ From the DM ] ![Show/hide content [x]](themes/cpgnuke/images/plus.gif) Here we go folks! Think of the ride as one huge rollercoaster – filled with fear and excitement! Feel free to post your responses appropriately as we wrap up our Prelude and begin the next Chapter of our story!

[ OOC ] ![Show/hide content [x]](themes/cpgnuke/images/plus.gif) Hahaha! Everyone NG? That's awesome...
Llorne gathers around the Pegasus that he and Chance are to ride, trying to get a better feel for the creature before he goes to climb on top of it. "I guess we'll have a while to get more used to each other, Chance. I hope you do not mind if I play my lute along the way? At least for some portions of the trip, that is."
He looks over the creature again, still amazed that he'll get to ride on a horse with wings.
"So, do you want to sit in the front or back?"

Though the young colt, Maddox, seems to enjoy the prospect of Llorne playing music during the flight, it seems to be indifferent as to where the elf might sit. Instead, Maddox turns his attentions towards Chance, as if deferring the topic towards the ranger.

Raven looks to Erik, "I guess its you and I on this one..." he has already forgotten its name, asks again, and smiles at the Pegasus. "Tol is it? I will do my best not to squirm too much." With a light step the black leather clad man slides up onto the saddle, his thick quarterstaff across his lap. "Lets take turns up front Erik, me first." He holds onto the saddle horn, hooks his feet, and readies for the flight. He glances at the gnome and his dog, and at the dwarf, and starts to laugh. "This should prove more than interesting I think, perhaps Llorne you can write a song about it, eh?"

"I'll take the front," remarks Chance to Llorne and Maddox both - he is clearly including the pegasus in the conversation. "It'd place less stress on Mad's wings."
For all that he talks sensibly about the aerodynamics of a winged horse, Chance can barely suppress his excitement.
Sweet Solstice! A flying horse!
He barely needs to be beckoned before he has urged the pegasus into flight, music in his ear and an exuberant laugh on his lips.

Erik shrugs in agreement to Shadow's suggestion, then climbs up behind him. After settling in for the long ride, he unwraps his chain from around his arm and places it inside his Bag of Holding.

[ OOC ] ![Show/hide content [x]](themes/cpgnuke/images/plus.gif) I Think you meant Raven. It's unlikely my dog was making any suggestions to you.
Ash feeds a small amount of the lady's herb to Shadow, wrapped in a piece of dried meat. And soon the dog is logy and listless. He leads the poor mastiff over to his designated pegasus and smiles at Raven. "You said a mouthful," the gnome replies with a chuckle. "I don't know whether to laugh or cry." He shakes his head and rubs the black dog behind the ears. "Can someone give me a hand with Shadow? He seems placid enough that he won't be any trouble. But he outweighs me by at least a factor of five. I'll never get him onto the pegasus on my own."

Raven hops off his winged horse, and helps Ash load the hound onto the back of his mount. "Good luck, and lets hope for your sake and Shadow's that he doesn't wake up half way through the flight." He considers the image of a masstif falling a few hundred feet to the ground and cringes. "There you go." He smiles at the little gnome and then hops back on his own mount Tol. "I think we are ready to go?"

"Thanks," the gnome replies sincerely, climbing onto the mount in front of Shadow. Then he adds, "I don't know that I'll ever be ready. But I can't think of any more reason for delay."

Llorne grins at Ash's comment. "Somehow, I don't think you are the only one." He glances over at the dwarf as he comments, though doesn't say anything else on that matter. "Doesn't the prospect of the flight thrill you though? Should definitely be interesting!"
Once Chance has settled into place, Llorne works on climbing up behind the other man, specifically looking for a saddle or a second seat or something to hold onto. "Perhaps we can trade positions tomorrow?" This last is spoken to Chance.

"On the one hand it does," Ash replies. "It's not every day that you get to ride a pegasus." Then he turns a shade paler even than is normal for him. "But on the other hand," he adds. "I'm far more used to being a thousand feet under ground than above it."
